Welcome to The Parrott Centre, Loyalist College Library

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCMENT

A very important update for our students and colleagues. As of September 11, 2025, full-time Ontario College Support Staff are on strike.
All library services are temporarily suspended, although the building will remain open on reduced hours. Please be advised that this may change at a later date. We understand that these disruptions to our services are frustrating and stressful, and we hope that the information in this section will help. The team in the Library sends our thanks for your patience and kindness during this uncertain time, and we look forward to being back with you soon.

Any online resources through LoyalistLibrary.com remain available throughout the strike, including:

  • eBooks
  • online journals, newspapers and magazines
  • streaming videos
  • The Library website and search will stay active.
  • The Library's YouTube channel will remain active, although no new content will be shared.

The following services and resources are not available during the strike:

  • borrowing and returning books
  • print library books, magazines and journals
  • library study rooms
  • interlibrary loan
  • research help
  • library instruction
  • copyright support
  • course reserves
  • Library emails will not be monitored.
  • The AskON chat reference service is temporarily suspended.

  • OPSEU News
    • OPSEU is the union that represents support staff and faculty at the 24 publicly funded colleges in Ontario. Representatives from OPSEU are responsible for negotiating collective agreements with the College Employer Council.
  • Ontario College Employer Council News
    • CEC is the government-mandated bargaining agent for Ontario's 24 publicly funded colleges. Representatives from CEC are responsible for negotiating collective agreements with representatives from OPSEU.

Print books and course reserves are not available during the strike. You can try the following options to find books, magazines and newspapers:

  • Use Catalyst to search and see if the item you want is available online.
  • Use your local library. Please Note! Public libraries require a membership, which is typically free. To get a membership at a public library, you usually need to live in the community where the library is located.

All loans are extended until the end of the strike. Please note that renewal and overdue notices are sent automatically by our system; any fines accumulated during this time will be forgiven. You do not have to worry about renewing or returning books during the strike.

At the time of this posting, study rooms are not available during the strike. Students looking for quiet or group study space can check the following locations:

  • Crisis Intervention Centre, Quinte Health Care, Belleville General Hospital 1-888-757-7766 - The Crisis Intervention Centre is a community mental health program located at Belleville General Hospital. The team of social workers and psychiatric nurses are ready to respond to crisis calls and offer emergency mental health intervention in the form of assessments, referrals, short-term crisis resolution or simply information. For more information, please contact the Crisis Intervention Centre at (613) 969-7400, Ext. 2753 or 969-5511, Ext. 2753. You can also call toll free at 1-888-757-7766. Hours of operation are 7:30 a.m. - 11:30 p.m. Telephone response by a crisis worker is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • First Nations and Inuit Hope for Wellness Help Line: 1-855-242-3310 - "The Hope for Wellness Help Line offers immediate mental health counselling and crisis intervention to all Indigenous peoples across Canada." Chat services are also available on the website.
  • Good2Talk Line: 1-866-925-5454 - Good2Talk is a free, completely confidential and anonymous help line for colleges and universities in Ontario. It is available 24/7 in English and French. Students can talk to a professional counselor to receive immediate telephone counseling support and referral for face-to-face support in their school or local community.
  • Kids Help Phone (24 Hours): 1-800-668-6868 - Canada's only 24/7, national support service. We offer professional counselling, information and referrals and volunteer-led, text-based. Kids Help Phone has expanded its mandate to include former youth in care of any age.
  • Lesbian Gay Bi Trans Youth Line: 1-800-268-9688 - Anonymous support is available Sunday to Friday between 4pm and 9:30pm. Call 1-800-268-9688 in complete confidence or visit www.youthline.ca
  • NAN Hope:1-844-NAN-HOPE, text 1-844-626-4673 - "The Nishnawbe Aski Mental Health Wellness Support Access Program (NAN Hope) provides community-driven, culturally appropriate and timely mental health and addictions support to members of the 49 First Nations communities in the Nishnawbe Aski Nation Territory."
  • Open Line, Open Mind: 1-613-310-6736 (310-OPEN) - Open Line, Open Mind offers information, support and referral to mental health and addiction services in Hastings and Prince Edward Counties. Services for adults aged 16+ and are available 24/7.
  • Sexual Assault Centre for Quinte and District: 1-613-967-6300 - 24-hour crisis support: 1-800-909-7007.
