English Communication: Welcome

A guide to library resources for students who are learning English.

Welcome!

Welcome to the English Communication Guide at the Parrott Centre. We've gathered a selection of resources to assist with English language learning and building English language skills. Whether you speak English as a first language or you are new to learning English, there are resources available to help you.

Resources featured in the guide are organized by type. To explore, click on any of the tabs. There are also tabs for helpful tools like the Library's videos and the Library's APA Style Guide.

Not sure how to get started? Take some time to explore the guide, or contact the Library. We can be reached by email or by calling (613) 969-1913, Ext. 2249.

Loyalist College provides a range of excellent services for students in a variety of different areas. You can find more information about these services through the Student Services page, or by contacting the International department.

These resources are organized by type. Remember! Catalyst, the Library's search, can be used to search all of these resources at once. The "Journals and Databases" tab shows a selection of journals and magazines on this topic, and a list of databases that can be searched for information. The "Books and eBooks" tab shows a selection of new books on this topic, a list of books recommended by faculty, and shows where to find books on this topic on the Library's shelves. The "Films" tab shows a selection of streaming videos on this topic, and a list of the streaming services that can be accessed through the Library. The "Open Educational Resources" tab shows a selection of open resources, including journals, textbooks, open courses, and more. This guide also includes links to the Library's videos and the APA Style Guide. The "How Do I Research?" tab explains the research process, including how to use Catalyst. Throughout the guide, there are also links that can be used to contact library staff for help.

Using this guide will help you to do the following:

  • Discover new resources about this topic
  • Find tools to help with APA Style, including how to reference information correctly
  • Learn how to use the Catalyst search to find useful, relevant information

The Parrott Centre Library uses research guide to help students and faculty find relevant information on a specific topic or area of study. The information and resources in these guides is available to all Loyalist College students and employees, at all Loyalist campuses. The research guides are created using software called "LibGuides"; sometimes, library staff might use this term instead of "research guides".

Feedback and suggestions about the Research Guides are welcome and appreciated; use any of the contact links in the guide to share feedback or suggestions.

Students and employees can ask for help at any time by contacting the Library by email, phone, or in person:

Please Note! Library staff monitor their email and phones during opening hours. If a request for help is sent outside of these hours, staff will reply when the Library re-opens.
