A.C.E. : Accessible Content Portal

In accordance with the Communication and Information Standards of the Accessiblity for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), the Parrott Centre will provide, upon request, an accessible or conversion ready format of print-based resources held in its collection to registered students, faculty or staff with a verified "perceptual disability"  in accordance with the definition provided in the Canadian Copyright Act.  

The Canadian Copyright Act defines a "perceptual disability as follows:

Canadian Copyright Act:  

"perceptual disability" means a disability that prevents or inhibits a person from reading or hearing a literary, musical, dramatic or artistic work in its original format, and includes such a disability resulting from:

(a) severe or total impairment of sight or hearing or the inablity to focus or move one's eyes,

(b) the inability to hold or manipulate a book, or

(c) an impairment relating to comprehension.

*Special collections, archival materials, rare books, textbooks/workbooks are exempt from this standard.  Please contact the AccessAbility Office should you require textbooks/workbooks in an accessible format.

ACE is managed by Scholars Portal, a service of the Ontario Council of University Libraries. 

 

ACE "supports users with print disabilities at participating institutions by making library collections accessible through an online platform. ACE contains a variety of print library materials which have been digitized and made available in accessible formats. Eligible users can also request print materials to be added to the collection on demand through their on-demand digitization service." (OCUL, 2014).

To use the Accessible Content E-Portal (ACE)

1) You must register with AccessAbility Services at Loyalist College.

2) Request a personal token by emailing the library. Note: this token is for your personal use only and must not be shared with other individuals.

3) Log into the ACE platform to search and/or use materials.  Please contact the library if the item you require is not already available via the ACE platform.  *Special collections, archival materials, rare books, textbooks/workbooks are exempt and will not be digitized. Please contact AccessAbility Services should you require textbooks/workbooks in an accessible format.
